Within the international Information Communication and Technology landscape, Solgenia is now a formidable competitor and player. Originally composed of variously acquired IT business organizations, Solgenia is united by a common vision and goal: to offer end-to-end Cloud solutions to its customers.
The Solgenia business activities are divided into two complementary and synergetic units. One is uniquely focused on design and development of software solutions for Cloud Computing, while the other unit is specialized in provisioning of professional IT consultancy, integration, security and infrastructure managed services.
The above strategic alignment is reflected in the organizational structure that originates from Solgenia S.p.A. – a holding company that operates through its subsidiaries with interests in developing Cloud Platform and Infrastructure solutions, Cloud Computing software, and a retention of focus on IT services. The company's key proprietary brands include Solgenia Italia S.r.l., Solgenia, USA, Inc., Solgenia Canada, Inc., Solgenia Mexico S.A., Akhela S.r.l.
The company has a direct presence in USA, Canada, Italy and Mexico, and it maintains a reseller network of more than 200 partners all over the world. Solgenia has a total revenue of USD$40 million, employs approximately 500 employees, and serves more than 2,000 customers.

Bridge the Gap
The use of technology to communicate, collaborate, and establish communities are pervasive throughout our personal life and our business life. However, the technology we use, the manner in which we use it, what we choose to communicate, how we choose to collaborate, and our concerns for policies/practices, security and privacy differ greatly - creating a gap in our digital experience. This gap can be defined in many different manners – a generational gap between the relatively young and older workforce, the gap between what we choose to communicate with while at work and at home, the gap between how we choose to collaborate on executing tasks, the gap between our concern for data security and personal identifiable information while conducting personal and professional communication transactions, or the gap between an individual’s private and professional personae.
The simple fact is that the technologies used in the workplace do not provide the same level of simplicity, flexibility and usability. The aspects of social, mobile and collaboration play a greater role in the technologies employed in our personal digital experiences, than they do in our professional lives. The irony is that some organizations choose to block this new level of productivity as independent software vendors - now defined as cloud developers of infrastructure, platform, and apps - introduce new layers of social, mobile and collaboration in their offerings.
Too often the solutions used to manage the business are complex, inflexible, difficult to use and do not integrate with each other - in fact, they become an obstacle to productivity and employee collaboration. Solgenia works to bridge the gap in our workplace technologies by focusing on business applications that expand communication and collaboration between users, helping to resolve business problems and get work done.

The Cloud Enabler
Whether you are considering a public cloud or private cloud opportunity, the simple fact is that the Cloud is radically changing the business context in which companies seek a strategic advantage either in reducing costs, or in getting to market quickly and more efficiently.
The decision to utilize a cloud management platform is not a tactical decision in reducing in-house infrastructure resources, but rather more rapidly making applications and resources available with greater flexibility and speed. It is a corporate strategy that transcends virtualization, and exploits web services to express a company’s directive and associated policies in order (1) to create customizable private and public catalogs, (2) to provision services to end users, (3) to measure the services consumed, and (4) to bill them nationally and across international boundaries.
The strategic nature of enabling business in the cloud must consider policy management of services rendered and user profiles. This consideration now brings about the growth and development of a Cloud ecosystem including Cloud Providers, Cloud Developers, Cloud Brokers and the Cloud Customer.
Solgenia is a leading Cloud enabling company that assists organizations in accelerating business benefits to increase productivity, reduce costs, and deliver more value to their respective customers.
As a Cloud enabler, Solgenia is specialized in providing Platform Infrastructure, Business and Collaboration Apps for the Cloud Ecosystem. Solgenia engages with Cloud Application Providers, Cloud Service Providers, Cloud Brokers, and Cloud Customers / Users to establish and enrich their business Cloud experience.

IT Consumerization
Technology is radically changing our lives: the huge explosion of the Internet makes it possible to always be connected giving way to a completely new social mobile experience that is creating communities without boarders or boundaries, and thus entirely new experiences. The rapid consumption of bandwidth by individuals in their personal and professional lives is clearly evidence of this phenomenon. The entrance and pervasive use of highly mobile endpoint devices such as smart phones and tablets and the development of high-speed mobile networks provide fertile ground for new business opportunities in making available services, provisioning business offerings, measuring the consumption of these services in a pay-per-use, flat-rate, or variable consumption model, and in billing for the same in a number of different fashions.
Social networks are becoming the main instrument through which people communicate, share and collaborate with one another. It is pervasive and whether or not organizations like it, these forces are making their way into the enterprise where employees bring their own devices, digital social networks, and external collaboration tools to work in order to connect, share and collaborate in increasing their productivity in getting work done.
These changes are made possible by the Cloud through increasing the availability of infrastructure resources, applications and services that are ubiquitous while a home, work or play. And the consumption of these resources are moving towards a utility-based model where one only pays for exactly what they consume.
Solgenia designs and implements its solutions in order to fully exploit these fundamental drivers of change: accessibility from mobile devices, integration of social elements in applications, and the availability of apps, platforms and infrastructure within the cloud.

History of Solgenia
Founded in 1994 in Spoleto, Italy by Ermanno Bonifazi (originally as Media Consulting and renamed in 2002), Solgenia focused on the development of business software and applications. The initial growth of the company resulted from its offering of highly innovative propriety business solutions targeted at small and medium-sized companies, a growing sector in the IT market. It also created strategic alliances with large multinational companies in the IT industry such as Microsoft, IBM, HP, Cisco, and Oracle.
Starting in 2007, the company initiated a more aggressive growth strategy by acquiring companies and branches of companies that would add products, services, or expertise to complement and grow its existing offering.
